Imagine a world in which machines perceive people's emotional states and adjust their actions to respond to those emotions appropriately. Is it worth interpreting our emotions in the technological age of Artificial Intelligence?

The concern is not whether intelligent machines can have any feelings but whether, without any feelings, machines can be intellectual. Indeed, we would not have lived as a species without feelings, and our intellect has strengthened as a consequence of our emotions. Besides, we do not separate our feelings from the way we apply our intellect.

Emotional intelligence, as well as technical expertise, is used to determine the treatment choices. Of course, Machines will never feel feelings equivalent to us humans. Nevertheless, they may replicate feelings that allow them to communicate in more suitable ways with humans.

What Is Emotional Intelligence?

The ability to consider and control your own feelings and those of the people around you is emotional intelligence or EI. People with a high degree of emotional intelligence understand what they believe, what their feelings signify and how other individuals can be influenced by these sentiments.

As an aspiring leader, I always strive to recognize the particular talent that separates the strongest from the rest! Emotional intelligence involves the ability to become conscious of one's own instincts and others' emotions and to control them, to comprehend the messages that emotions send regarding relationships.

It is mainly negotiation, encouragement, determination and inspiration to understand the fundamental factors an individual needs in their roles and duties. Although we have a plan for projects and places we connect within our souls, we interact with the people. The goal of embracing the Emotional Intelligence metric is to transition from 'Walking in with pain' to 'Walking out with a smile' in simple words, by knowing their experiences, influencing and changing people's lives.

This ability is on the rise with increasing digitalization! We can not really communicate with them if we engage with others as we do with ourselves. We will treat individuals according to their characteristics and not ours.

For leaders, it is extremely important for success to have emotional intelligence. After all, who is more likely to be an effective leader who screams at his/her team when they're under stress or a leader who remains in charge and considers the scenario quietly?

There are five main components to it according to Daniel Goleman, an American psychologist who revolutionized emotional intelligence:

    Analytic ingredients of Emotional Intelligence:-

    Self-Awareness

    The capability of one to identify their own interpersonal skills, limitations, beliefs, goals and other people's effects. A person who is compassionate and responsive tends to become a good listener to individuals who are intensely stressed and knowledge of this fact allows each other to function better.

    Self-Regulation

    Integrating destructive and headstrong emotions and forwarding them. Instead of being judgmental and reactionary, it would make a leader more consequential on his/her team rather than being analytical and sensitive, thus reducing the risk of failures.

    Motivation

    To be able to push oneself consciously towards attaining individual and group objectives. Staying positive when facing tough circumstances.

    Empathy

    Responsive to the feelings/emotions of others when it comes to making decisions. The least we do is to step into the shoe of the other and gaze at the image from another perspective. Living in a social environment, engaging internationally, working virtually, and stressed by multiple forces. It is more relevant to have a holistic view of a situation.

    Social Skill

    This is the capacity to scoop up on jokes, sarcasm, customer service, establish relationships and friendships, and reach an understanding with others. Goleman mentions that in this component, emotional maturity describes someone who has strong communication skills, teamwork, the willingness to be a leader or organize a group of people, and the ability to use negotiation or coercion to overcome challenging circumstances or disputes.

    At some point, all of us want to drive people, be it managing a school presentation, a large building project, a working group or a huge team. Being a monarch, obviously, is not as straightforward as it seems. Definitely, people are not born leaders, they become leaders over time.
