Perfectionism: Blessing or a Curse?

Perfectionism is both a blessing and a curse, as cliche as that may sound. It can be the wellspring of your determination to agree with the rest of the world, but it can also be the massive large rock that blocks your journey and your outlooks. It can characterize carelessness or thoroughness depending on the type of responsibilities you assign to it.

I knew this meticulously as I have worked with many people who are eager to do things perfectly, and when they fail to do so, the consequences are disastrous.

We must remember that we are not born with the potential to excel at everything. Skill is advanced, intelligence is acquired, and being a perfectionist will enable you to accomplish those goals if you keep it from dragging you down. It is very prevalent for a perfectionist to plop off a task because they are afraid of rejections. However, we must not enable it to act as a brake; instead, in order for perfectionism to be favorable, we must accept it as a fuel that lets us meet our optimum acceleration.

And somewhere, we all want to be perfect but, it should be sorted. A very influential person told in his quote section:

“Anything worth doing is worth doing poorly”

That quote has always glued with me because it reminds me that it is wise to attempt than not attempt at all. Whatever the outcome, something is always beneficial to nothing. This can implement in anything from schoolwork to career objectives.

Procrastination, dissatisfaction, and stress are all too common emotions that haunt perfectionists. Procrastination can be defeated by reciting to yourself this simplistic quote. Another tactic you regularly employ is to count down from 5 to 1 and, when you attain 1, begin doing whatever it is you must do. Pondering about the fulfillment you will feel when you cross something off your to-do list will also help motivate you to begin your task.

Another challenging element is to deal with dissatisfaction. Making sure your to-do lists are manageable, not too long, and diversification can make you feel a bit more satisfied after a days work. Completing tasks in various areas (such as study, work, cleaning, or something artistic) can help to foster a sense of fulfillment.

Stress can be overwhelming at times. Meditation and journaling have proven to be effective methods of dealing with these emotions. Meditation leads to focusing on yourself and being aware, whereas journaling allows you to disclose and assess your opinions. Writing down your feelings can often bring to light how ridiculous your concerns are in the current moment. Remember to keep reminding yourself that you are performing your greatest.Obviously, I am not a health specialist, and those who struggle from more extreme bursts of perfectionism should reach out for help. Here I have shared some processes that will assist you to conquer the impacts, at least somewhat.

The Cure for Perfectionism

There is no one-size-fits-all cure for perfectionism, but there is a procedure. It is a process of beginning to detach yourself from your rising norms, rigid perceptions, and stories about what it takes to be a great, worthwhile human being.

For a perfectionist, letting go of your norms and guidelines feels like jumping out of a plane without a parachute. Isn hell going to starve over? Isnt everything going to fall apart? Isnt it possible that the ground beneath your feet will collapse? NO!

However, once youve jumped, you start realizing there is no ground. Youre not going to hit anything. Nothing truly terrible is going to happen. But you wont really know until you try.

Consider failures to be learning experiences

Failure saddens you, grounds you, and compels you to rethink the stories you tell yourself about what builds you a precious person. Remember, when you fail, you are closer to your achievements.

Learn to handle discomfort without reacting to it

Instead of responding impulsively to discomfort, exercise accepting it without acting. Discomfort is a natural part of life, and it is frequently inherent. Sit with the uneasiness for a while. Analyze how it helps you feel in your body and what thought shapes it keeps bringing up. Begin by sitting with minor issues and gradually progress to larger ones.

Focus & live your present moment

The process that appeals to you may distinguish, but the aim should be the same. Perhaps you bring your mind back to the present when you practice, participate in a leisure activity you enjoy, or spend time with loved ones.

Every minute when you are involved in the present is a moment when you are not sharply criticizing yourself or other people, when you are not wondering about almost everything you have to get done, when you are not telling yourself that your contentment will come when you have done X, Y, and Z.
